It is in excellent condition being NOS (New Old Stock). They are made from 99.95% purity Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) which of course is Alumina. Generally the balance of composition for this purity Alumina material is of Magnesium Oxide (MgO) which is Magnesia. THESE TUBES ARE FRAGILE!!! This material has very high hardness, very high stiffness, very good corrosion resistance to chemicals at high temperature, most specifically it is resistant to attack from molten Sodium, and it has very high refractory ness or use temperature. It is also very durable having even better mechanical strength properties than other high purity alumina materials. It has better thermal shock resistance as compared with other alumina materials as well. This is realized through its more uniformly controlled grain size which is required to provide the necessary optical translucency. They may be used for a variety of electrical, mechanical, and thermal applications. They may be used as setter plates for firing parts in a kiln. The may be used for high temperature furnaces and as high temperature refractory turntables. They may be used optical site tubes for taking readings of very high temperatures. They may also be used for jewelry or for applications requiring high wear or abrasion resistance. They may be used for making high pitch resonance chimes.
