Description: The Canadian Patent Medicine Act in 1909 listed that the ingredients for Chamberlains’ Colic, Cholera and Diarrhea Remedy are: one fluid ounce contains 45% alcohol, 10.7% ether (A derivative of alcohol), 19 minims of chloroform and 3 grains tri-chlor-tertiary-butyl-alcohol. The Act also eliminated advertising that the product could cure a wide range of illnesses. After 1909 this product indicated it would cure 'For the relief of pain in the stomach and bowels, colic, intestinal cramp, diarrhea.' Earlier versions contained Opium and it stated to cure pain in the stomach, colic, cholera morbus, cramp colic, bilious colic, painters' colic, summer complaint, cholera, dysentery, diarrhea, bloody flux, chronic diarrhea, cholera infantum, and bowel complaint in all its forms. The opium resulted in the death of some children taking the medicine. This is just a wonderfully embossed bottle from the early 1900s boldly embossed “CHAMBERLAINS COLIC CHOLERA AND DIARRHEA REMEDY, CHAMBERLAIN MED CO, DES MOINES IA, USA” all on this tiny bottle. It stands 4 ¼” high and 1 ¾” wide in a standard aqua color. The glass has some really great bubbles and flaws. The label panel is not even smooth. It is in dug condition with some heavy stain but an interesting swirling pattern on the front. There is no damage.
