Description: The tussie mussie is an iconic piece that evokes the Victorian period with its fashions and bygone customs. It is also correctly called a posey holder. These were made of metal in a myriad of designs and finishes, meant to hold a small bouquet of flowers which could release its flowery aroma through the pieced and decorative metal. I have two tussie mussies that I am listing tonight. This one dates to the mid-late Victorian period and is made of silver-plate. It measures 6 1/2" long from the bottom of the curved, closed Rococo-style handle to the scalloped opening at the top which features four (4) butterflies with outspread wings that touch one another at the top. There is a 4" long chain with a ring at the end which was for a woman to slip on her finger to aid in ease of carrying. The design of this posey holder is Rococo in style, which was the prevalent design of nearly every Victorian creation in this period, from furniture to textiles, and everything decorative. The cone-shaped posey holder is ornate snd in excellent condition. Even if one doesn't use it as it was originally used, it is eye-catching displayed on a dressing table or marble-top table vignette. Thank you for stopping to view my listing. Please message me with any questions you may have. I am always very happy to help and it is important to me that everyone who buys from me is happy with their purchases. I hope you will stop again and please consider adding me to your favorite sellers list.
