Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich of Russia (Russian: Павел Александрович; 3 October 1860 – 28 January 1919) was the sixth son and youngest child of Emperor Alexander II of Russia by his first wife, Empress Maria Alexandrovna. He was a brother of Emperor Alexander III and uncle of Nicholas II, Russia's last monarch. He entered the Russian Army, was a general in the Cavalry and adjutant general to his brother Emperor Alexander III, and Knight of the Order of St.Andrew. In 1889,he married Princess Alexandra of Greece,his paternal first cousin once removed. The couple had a daughter & son, but Alexandra died after the birth of their second child. In his widowhood, Duke Paul began a relationship with Olga Valerianovna Karnovich, a married woman with three children. After obtaining a divorce for Olga and in defiance of strong family opposition, Grand Duke Paul married her in October 1902. He contracted a morganatic marriage with a divorcée in defiance of the Tsar's prohibition, Grand Duke Paul was banished from living in Russia and deprived of his titles and privileges. Between 1902 and 1914, he lived in exile in Paris with his second wife, who gave him three children. In 1914, he settled back in Russia with his second family. Уволен со службы, разжалован и выслан из России. В 1905 прощен и восстановлен в чине генерал-адъютанта.Морганатические супруга, сын Владимир и дочери Ирина и Наталья пожалованы титулом князей (княжен) Палей (1915).Командир 1-го Гвардейского корпуса во время I Мировой войны 1914-1918. Генерал- инспектор кавалерии (1916). Августейший покровитель благотворительных, медицинских, научных и культурных учреждений.Подал в отставку после ареста императорской семьи.В марте 1918 года был сослан на Урал сын Павла Александровича Владимир Палей, который был казнён 18 июля того же года под Алапаевском.Сам Павел Александрович был арестован большевиками и расстрелян в Петропавловской крепости в ночь на 11/24 января 1919 вместе с великим князем Дмитрием Константиновичем, великим князем Николаем Михайловичем и великим князем Георгием Михайловичем. Погребен в братской могиле. Прославлен в лике святых Русской Церковью За границей в 1981. Studio Bergamasco. He started as an actor at the French Theatre in St Petersburg but became interested in the daguerreotype process & went to Paris to study it.He returned to St.Petersburg to open his own studio and after a few years became well known there and in Europe, winning prizes at exhibitions, photographing at many courts and receiving several decorations.
