This is an authentic document from the Civil War.This is NOT a reprint or a reproduction.This is a "general orders" document, which was issued on April 6, 1865, by Edward Davis Townsend (1817-1893), who was the Assistant Adjutant General of the Union Army at that time.Townsend later served as the Adjutant General of the U.S. Army for eleven years, from 1869 to 1880.
