Description: Little America - Aerial Exploration in the Antarctic, The Flight to the South Pole by Richard Evelyn Byrd, G. P. Putnam’s Sons (Autumn 1930 First Edition, First Printing). Blue hardcover with gilt lettering (6.5x9.5”), 422 pgs including Index; 74 ils of which 4 are maps, 2 of the maps are fold-out. . …no ISBN Describes early exploration and study of the Antarctic. Scientific information as well as a lot of material to describe human aspects of pioneering and living in this environment. Admiral Byrd states in the Foreword that he would have liked to write more, but the "groans of the publishers" finally induced him to declare this book completed. Binding is very good with only a little ‘movement’ as this is quite a thick book, a full 2 inches. Pages are clean but show overall age toning. Fold-out maps are in very good undamaged condition. Covers show some scuffing and edge wear; spine is darkened and there's some wear to top and bottom ends of spine, and board corners. Please see the pictures for more about what's in this book, and the condition of this copy. ► We are thinning contents of our smoke-free, pet-free home. Books will be listed, plus toys including CCG and trading cards, fabric/wallpaper sample books, jigsaw puzzles, jewelry, household items and maybe some of my fishing and workshop stuff.
