Description: Victorian Gentleman's absolutely enormous (this was made to impress) Sterling silver (fully hallmarked) pocket watch chain Antique shield fob with attractive 12ct rose gold filled (professionally tested) detailing to the front. C~1900. Measures; 6cm height (including the top ring), 4.3cm width and weighs a heavy 18 grams. I have shown it next to a UK 5 pence coin to give you an idea of size. (Please excuse all the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures - was extremely difficult to photograph). Wonderfully adorned to the front with an acanthus leaf decoration to either side and flowers and scrollwork set upon an attractive engine turned background. To centre is a raised 12ct rose rolled gold shield shaped cartouche with large 12ct rose rolled gold raised 'ribbon banner' cartouches to top and bottom (lovely engine turned detailing to both) - all are free from any inscriptions or initials. The slightly textured back is smooth, highly polished, again free from any inscriptions or initials and very clearly hallmarked to base (within different shaped, recessed cartouches) with the Lion Passant (Sterling silver), anchor (Birmingham assay) and lowercase scrolled letter; a - dating to 1900. Also clearly stamped with the makers Gothic style initials (within a fancy, recessed shield shaped cartouche); R.P. Wide bail and original big robust Sterling silver top ring (again both hallmarked with the Lion passant) to attach to a pocket watch chain. Excellent clean and bright condition with no damage or wear and just a few extremely light overall little surface scratches commensurate with age.
