Illustrated with portraits, maps, plans, facsimilies, rare prints, contemporary views. This history was very controversial for apologetic position toward the Ku Klux Klan.Books have navy blue hard cover with embossed gilted title and spine and gilt decoration on top of pages. 4 loose pages of volume 2. Vol 5 front board is faded. Gentle rubbing on corners of boards. There is normal foxing on tissue mounted across from each illustration. Bindings are intact and overall condition is considered to be very good.These books were copyrighted in 1901 and 1902 and were produced in New York and London by Harper & Brothers Publishers.
